First of all I want to say that I'm a complete dork for writing this article. Most people write critiques on politics or philosophy, I choose to slam a Star Wars fan site. I could write about politics if you want. For example; Why does the Trade Federation even want the Naboo folks to sign the treaty in the first place? Nobody knows! Lucas probably doesn't even know, but I'll save that topic for another time. For now my thoughts are centered on Supershadow.com. Yes I love reading Star Wars news and rumors, but the one thing that bothers me the most are imposters and Supershadow.com is "Grand Moff" Imposter. Supershadow spews his probe droids of nonsense all over his site and many Star Wars fans are buying into it.
Ok, now I begin my criticism.
What is Supershadow.com?
Supershadow.com is an unofficial Star Wars fan site that features a Q/A forum where
readers ask Supershadow questions pertaining to Star Wars and he all knowingly answers them. The site also has
a plethora of Star Wars related information.
Who is Supershadow?
This is what Supershadow.com says verbatim:
"As you would expect, all information regarding SuperShadow is above top secret
(classified at the highest level). Currently, nothing is known about SuperShadow
except that SS is very close, personal friends with George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars."
Why am I Attacking This Site?
Never in my life have I seen a site where people kiss so much ass.
His readers call him: "oh great one," "Master Shadow,"
"Mr. Awesome," "All Knowing," "oh great and powerful one".. and the list goes on.
At first I was intrigued, but after reading a bunch of posts
I realized what a joke this site really was. All these geeks are being duped by this false prophet!
Supershadow is like C-3PO on Endor and his readers are a
bunch of annoying Ewoks thinking he is some powerful deity.
What Is My Accusation?
I am going to prove that many Bothans didn't die giving Supershadow his information.
Not only does he not have an inside scoop on Star Wars, but he doesn't even
understand what the movies are even about.
I've been reading Supershadow.com for quite some time now and not once did he ever reveal anything that could be classified as an inside scoop or confirmed rumor. I know that most websites have nothing to offer and that it's cool they exist and free-speech and blah blah blah, but this one is different. Supershadow claims he knows everything and he is overly self-assertive about that.
Here a typical Q/A that I took from his site:
Hey, can you get us any inside info on the Knights of
the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords video game?
Please post if you have any info. (SuperShadow:
The SS spies have provided me with a rough plot
outline for this game. However, I can't reveal any info at this time.)
People eat this shit up! How does that prove he has any inside information? It doesn't, Yet his readers respond with glee and admiration. What did he say that's so secret or interesting? NOTHING.
Based on that Q/A anybody could be a Supershadow.
He says nothing of value! I can even be him.
Here is my example of a typical Supershadow Q/A:
"Hey Supershadow You Rule! Can you rate this
title for Episode III? "Rise of The Sith To The Xtreme"
(Supershadow responds "I would give that a 1 out of 10.
I spoke to Lucas about it and he said no.")
"Wow Supershadow, You are the Supreme Being! Can you ask Lucas about this title? "The Fall of the Jedi To The Xtreme"
(Supershadow responds, "I sent it to Lucas and he said 'interesting'.")
Every letter in the reader mail is like that. Make one up yourself, It's fun! I suggest you visit his site and read anyone of them yourself. You'll see!
He doesn't even know what the Star Wars movies are about!
Example:
Greetings oh great and powerful one! I was wondering why Obi-Wan
let Vader kill him so easily in Episode 4: A New Hope?
My smart *** brother thinks that he let Vader kill him
so that he would not get in the way of Luke's training
and still guide him as a spirit. Is this theory right?
Thanks and rock on!
(SuperShadow responds: This theory is incorrect. Obi-Wan didn't
let Vader beat him. Obi-Wan simply gave up against the
superior fighting skills of Darth Vader.)
I think it's pretty common knowledge that Obi-Wan sacrificed himself for Luke. Didn't Supershadow notice how Obi-Wan turned and looked at Luke before Vader struck him down? For Supershadow to say something as simple as "Obi-Wan simply gave up against the superior fighting skills of Darth Vader" really cheapens Obi-Wan's character and makes him less important towards the development of Luke. Obi-Wan saying, "You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" explains it all.
I can go on and on about this. Again please visit his site and see for yourself.
Reader Question: Greetings oh great one!
Where did Lucas get the idea for midichlorians at?
(SuperShadow responds: Midichlorians are an Supershadow creation.
That is why it is such a great idea for explaining the Force.
Pure genius on all levels of analysis.)
Reader: That is possibly one of the stupidest ideas in the Star Wars universe.
(SuperShadow responds: Be kind. Don't hurt the feelings of SS.)
Is this guy kidding me? Yeah I know liking Midichlorians is a matter of opinion (I personally think it's horrible), but first he claims he came up with the idea with no proof to back it up, but then he thinks it was brilliant and congratulates himself for it. What a cocky bastard!
After that particular post his readers were referring to him as the creator of Midichlorians! THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVED HIM! Who are these people? Besides, I thought the Force was "an energy-field that surrounds us and penetrates us and binds the galaxy together." Whatever...
Like most fan sites, his website is also a dumping ground for tidbits and photos that can be found all over the internet. Much like what we do at shampoopoo, only we don't claim to be "very close, personal friends of George Lucas." We just take crap that's already available. Supershadow is like "oh look at my rare Episode 3 photos" and in reality they're nothing but photos you can access by having a StarWars.com Hyperspace account.
If you send Supershadow an email challenging him, he won't reply. Try it yourself!
Just type "Supershadow you are a fake" and copy and paste this URL:Well there you go. If any of you "Supershadow believers" want to challenge me go right ahead. If you want to keep reading stuff like "I'll forwarded that to Lucas" or "I can't reveal that info at this time" then Supershadow.com is the place to be.
I'll still visit his site for that rare script or rare photo because he did a fine job organizing them. Also his site must have some great meta-tags because if you Google "Star Wars Rumors", Supershadow.com ranks in the top 5; so I'll give him credit for that. But If you want real Star Wars rumors I suggest visiting theforce.net, it's a well put together site with lots of information and a great forum.
Either Supershadow is some dorky kid playing a practical joke on the Star Wars community, or he is Rick McCallum the "real" Phantom Menace who pretty much has no clue about Star Wars except saying "yes" to George Lucas.
Rick McCallum is probably too busy sucking George's dick, so I tend to believe it's some dorky kid.
